A current discrepancy in some human rights laws allows for the consumption of certain drugs for certain reasons in the workplace. This created an issue of confusion and frustration of those who attended the event.

The two main speakers were Amy Groothuis, a lawyer from the Miller Thomson firm based in Regina, and Janice Decelles from MNP.

Carolynn Meginbir was in attendance as well from the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board. She helped bring some clarity to the issues associated with impairment in the workplace.

The seminar was hosted by the Estevan Chamber of Commerce, Miller Thompson, MNP and WorkSafe Saskatchewan.

Jackie Wall, the executive director of the chamber, said she believes the luncheon was very useful for all who attended, as it brought answers to a lot of questions people have been having about the legalization of marijuana and how that relates to the workplace.
