Garry Hirsch joins Estevan's Business Hall of Fame

Garry Hirsch of Hirsch Holdings Inc. is the newest inductee into the Nick and Verna Morsky Estevan Business Hall of Fame. The announcement was made Friday night during the fifth biennial Estevan Chamber of Commerce Estevan Business Excellence Awards.

Garry Hirsch of Hirsch Holdings Inc. is the newest inductee into the Nick and Verna Morsky Estevan Business Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made Friday night during the fifth biennial Estevan Chamber of Commerce Estevan Business Excellence Awards. Hirsch, who had more than 50 years of experience as an entrepreneur, joins eight other individuals, families and businesses in the business hall.

He recapped his lengthy business career in the construction industry for more than 250 people in attendance at the Wylie-Mitchell Building. He often drew laughter as he discussed the joys and the challenges of running a successful business, and as he recapped the many changes that have happened over the years.

鈥淚t was 52 years of fun. I would wake up early, early in the morning, 4 or 5 o鈥檆lock. I could not wait to get to my office. I had fun every day.鈥
He opened Red River Lumber in 1981, which remains part of the community, and his construction companies have employed many people.

The crowd gave a Hirsch a standing ovation after his speech in recognition of his contributions to the community.
