A number of fundraisers are scheduled in the community for those looking to support the United Way Estevan鈥檚 upcoming telethon.
One of the first will be the second annual Oil-a-thon at the Great Canadian Oil Change in Estevan on Oct. 1. Fifteen dollars from each oil change that day will be directed towards the United Way. 聽
Melanie Dzeryk from the Great Canadian Oil Change said they decided to offer the promotion again due to the success of a year ago, when it raised about $1,200.
鈥淲e had a lot of success with it last year,鈥 said Dzeryk. 鈥淭he community really came out, we met our goal and we always, in the back of our minds, thought that if it went well, we would do it again, so we decided to proceed with it again.鈥
This year鈥檚 promotion will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. For the final two hours, there will be $29.99 oil changes for all conventional, up to five-litre oil changes.
There will be prizes and giveaways during the day.
Dzeryk hopes that they can match last year鈥檚 support. New for this year is a donate button that has been added to their Facebook page, so anybody who doesn鈥檛 need an oil change, or isn鈥檛 around on Oct. 1, can still donate.
Also, from Oct. 1-16, the Tower Caf茅 in Estevan will be donating part proceeds from the sale of all pizzas to the United Way. 聽
The summer coupon book, offered by Estevan Mercury Publications, is still available until Sept. 30 for $10 each. Part proceeds from the sale of each coupon book will be donated to the United Way. The coupon book has deals from more than 20 businesses and offers hundreds of dollars in savings.
The books are available at the Mercury鈥檚 office, Henders Drugs and the Estevan A&W restaurant.
This year鈥檚 telethon will happen on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Royal Canadian Legion鈥檚 Estevan branch. The telethon is a fundraiser for the United Way鈥檚 15 member agencies and community partners.
