Six businesses around Estevan came together to collect food for the Estevan Salvation Army鈥檚 Food Bank, building displays of donations in their respective foyers.
Sarah Fitzpatrick with GFL Environmental said, 鈥淟ast year we did a soup challenge for the food bank. This year, we asked what they needed.鈥
That led to a boxed food drive, which was called the Box Out Hunger Challenge. It took place over three weeks, with the food 小蓝视频 judged on Dec. 16.
Each of the participating companies 鈥 Affinity Credit Union, CIBC, TS&M Supply, The Black Grasshopper, 小蓝视频east College鈥檚 Estevan campus and GFL Environmental 鈥 built a display of boxed food that was donated.
Allison Dinsmore of GFL said, 鈥淚t was neat to see how creative everyone was. TS&M made a whole city with superheroes.鈥
Affinity鈥檚 theme was gingerbread. The CIBC made a big heart. GFL did a fireplace.
Fitzpatrick said The Black Grasshopper鈥檚 food supplier intended on bringing in a donation on Dec. 17 as well.
Mayor Roy Ludwig and city manager Jeff Ward did the judging, and the top displays were, in order, TS&M Supply, Affinity Credit Union and CIBC.
The total amount of food collected filled 26 totes, each 96 gallons in size.
鈥淚t was a really great turnout,鈥 Fitzpatrick said.
