SaskPower鈥檚 Boundary Dam Power Station has eclipsed a safety milestone, as it has gone more than two years without a lost-time injury.
On May 14, SaskPower celebrated two years without a single lost-time injury at the coal-fired power station near Estevan. The announcement was made on May 23 in a SaskPower media release.
鈥淭his reflects a lot of hard work by the 350 men and women working at Boundary Dam,鈥� said SaskPower vice-president of power production Howard Matthews. 鈥淚t also shows how SaskPower has made safety a core value in recent years.
鈥淲e鈥檝e put our money where our mouth is and we鈥檙e achieving real results. Our employees continue to bring power to homes and businesses every day, and they have to stay safe to keep you safe at home.
鈥淲e tell farmers to be safe during seeding and 鈥榗ome home safe tonight鈥� to their families. We also need to do the same for every employee at SaskPower.鈥�
SaskPower continues to emphasize public and employee safety in all things, from recruitment to project planning and outage response. As part of the Canadian Electricity Association, SaskPower also collaborates with other utilities to make sure they share their lessons learned with others, and bring new best practice back to Saskatchewan.
鈥淭here鈥檚 still work to be done,鈥� said Matthews. 鈥淲e used to rank low among Canadian utilities for these safety incidents. We鈥檙e much better now, with only a single lost-time injury at our many generating facilities in the last year. Our goal is zero injuries, and we will get there by keeping safety as a priority above all else.鈥�
The Canadian Electricity Association defines a lost-time injury as an injury or illness initiated in the workplace where resulting time off work extends past the day of injury.
