ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia encourages local residents to sign up for Voyent Alert.

“The free alert system is a streamlined way to relay information to our residents. Voyent messages can be sent several ways - via the Voyent Alert app, email, text message or as a phone call to a landline/cellphone. We have 1,223 residents signed up,” said Tina Dijkstra of the Town of Assiniboia.

To learn more, residents can check out their website, www.assiniboia.net/town_office/voyent_alert_.html.

Assiniboia has used the Voyent Alert since 2021. The system can be customized so residents can get the alerts the way that they or their business prefers.

Dijkstra added, “If the Voyent Alert app, email, text message or phone call do not work for residents or business, they can pop into the town website, home page, and scroll to the alert messages.”

The Town of Assiniboia is committed to keeping their residents informed. They also utilize an online events calendar, which makes it easy for organizations to get their events/information advertised in the community. The TOA also uses social media, hosting both a Facebook and Instagram page.

Additionally, Dijkstra notes the there are three bulletin boards in the community, located at the post office, Conexus lobby and the 小蓝视频land Co-op grocery store lobby.

“Assiniboia Hit Radio 98.1 does a fantastic job with their radio ads and coverage. We also have a great relationship with our Assiniboia Times team. If you use Voyent, social media, check the bulletin boards, listen to the radio or read news print, you are in the know.”

The very first Voyent message was sent out in early 2021, with only 109 subscribers at the time. More than 1,100 have come on board as Voyent subscribers since then, and the town expects that number to grow.

Dijkstra said the feedback they have received has been vary positive and the customization of alerts allows everyone to use it.

The community’s Emergency Measures Organization, which also includes Assiniboia’s Fire Department, are also connected with Voyent to alert residents of emergencies.

In fact, TOA said they used Voyent alert recently to advise residents that AFD was doing a controlled burn for fire practise at Assiniboia’s Fairgrounds, so that people would not be alarmed, and removes the fear of not knowing whether it was a real emergency or not.

Voyent alert has been a great asset in keeping residents informed of the infrastructure watermain valve replacement on Centre Street, as it keeps both residents and businesses alike informed of each work zone.

“The Voyent Alert system allows us to send updates immediately to all subscribers. Our public works crew also has been placing door hangers on each of the residents & businesses to ensure that everyone affected by the water disruptions during the valve replacements has as much notice as possible. The Town hopes to minimize the inconvenience to residents and business of this much needed infrastructure replacement project,” said Dijkstra.
