WEYBURN -  Brayden King has had a lot of fun performing live in the past year, and has released a new album with a variety of acoustic songs after hearing from some of his fans how much they enjoyed his music.

Formerly of Weyburn, where he was front man for the band The Seventh Avenue, he now lives in Edmonton and has continued to pursue his music career. He admitted that he has “formed an addiction to performing live, and so I have been playing anywhere that will have me.”

“I have had so much fun at every live show that I have performed at. I love those times when the audience feels they can get involved as much as they want to be. There are times of listening, or times of singing along, and they are just having the best time enjoying my performance,” said King.

From the live shows where he was performing both original and cover songs, King compiled seven songs that are among his main repertoire, and recorded them onto an album for his music fans.

“Originally we planned to track it during one of the live shows, but there were a few different concerns to why we didn’t record it that way. We felt that there might be too much room for error at a live recording,” explained King.

During one of his road trips, while performing live close to Regina, King decided to take the songs to a studio there, and record the album.

“Ultimately all the songs are one take, so it is still that live performance feeling,” said King.

In his time on the road since May of 2021, King has performed at roughly 70 live shows, which have ranged from personal requests, to small concerts, and a few slightly larger concerts.

“One of the nice things about performing in Alberta and Saskatchewan is that the current COVID-19 restrictions have not impacted live music performances very much. There are mask mandates in place, and as much as I would rather see the smiling faces of my fans, it is still nice to perform live,” said King.

His love of performing live includes the hopes of touring to other provinces, however King has admitted that with the COVID restrictions, this has been a challenge. For example, he had a couple of shows that were scheduled in Manitoba, that were postponed.
