The ninth annual Cruise Night will be held in downtown Weyburn on Saturday, June 19. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and go until 8 p.m., as hundreds of car-show enthusiasts will line the downtown area with their antique cars, muscle cars, special interest cars, old trucks, motorcycles and a variety of other different cars.Cruise Night is open to the public and many downtown stores will have specials on. Exhibitor and organizer Harvey Oudot said, "It's excellent for the family and it draws many out-of-town people (to downtown Weyburn). Every year (Cruise Night) gets a little better. It's interesting for the public and there's a lot of support from local businesses."There will be 50's and 60's music supplied by Cleo's DJ and a food court with a variety of items such as burgers, ice cream and candy floss. The food court will be run by non-profit organizations."At Cruise Night you can talk to the people who have these antique cars and hear different stories while you eat candy floss or have a burger. You should come down to see what goes on, (Cruise Night) is a great event," Oudot said.A 50/50 draw will take place at Cruise Night and the A&W Root Bear will be there to meet the kids. A public choice award will take place for the general public to vote on their favourite car. There will be prizes given out to first, second and third place winners.Registration for participants is held at the Royal Canadian Legion with a cost of $10 to register. Proceeds from the Cruise Night show-and-shine will go to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation.
