Assiniboia Family and Child Care Services presented their annual art auction and celebration in 2019 – this was another exciting collaboration with the Shurniak Gallery held on October 27. The art show began at 1:30 p.m. at the Shurniak. The masterpieces, which were created by the children at ACCS, had been displayed in the gallery from October 22-27.
This year, rather than have a live auction, the pieces created by the children were auctioned online. The bidding for the art had been featured on the Assiniboia Child Care Services Facebook page, although silent auction items were also available. The bids for art began on October 21 and ended at noon on October 28.
“This is a celebration of the work and love of the appreciation of art,” Michele Vallieresof the ACCS said. “This is not only a fundraiser,” Vallieres added, as she explained this annual event in greater detail last Sunday. “It’s also a chance for ACCS to connect with the community and families.”
The ACCS on 501 Fourth Avenue delivers childcare services for Assiniboians and parents in the neighbouring regions. But even if they didn’t require childcare, everyone in the community had been invited to this creative occasion at the Shurniak on October 27. The ACCS wanted their art show to create an expanded interest in this homegrown organization specializing in affordable childcare. Simply put, the show last Sunday was designed to raise the profile of early childhood education in Assiniboia.
During the art celebration on Sunday, some of the child-artists of Assiniboia performed on the piano or sang after the attendees browsed through the exhibition. The exhibit from ACCS contained some excellent representations of abstracts, post-impressionistic styles and even one or two examples of surrealism. Moreover, Fresh Start provided snacks for the show’s contributors and participants. The money raised at the art show will go to programming needs.
