STOUGHTON - Like so many communities, things had to be put on hold for more than two years, and the Stoughton Community Players was one of them. They are excited to be back and begin performing.

The dates are booked for Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10, taking place at the Tecumseh branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Exit Laughing will be the production.

It takes approximately 70 volunteers for things to run smoothly, including door people, servers, kitchen help, props, lights and so much more.

This event originally began to raise funds for a pool liner for the Stoughton Swimming Pool. Once this project was completed, the group moved on to helping other community groups.

According to Danielle Hoffman, it is a lot of work and it takes a great deal of dedication, but it is also a great deal of fun.

The last play, Buying the Moose, was performed in 2019, and each performance was done in front of a sold-out crowd of 400 people.

Many communities offer dinner in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, and Stoughton is happy to be one of them.

Meetings were held on Sept. 7 and 8 at the Poplar Tree Inn to see who would be interested in acting or volunteering. They would welcome new faces to take part.

Hoffman said, “This is a unique opportunity for locals to volunteer and come together to use drama and performing arts.”

Rehearsals will be three to four times a week, beginning in October, then every night the week prior to the play, when dress rehearsals will take place.

Over the previous years, these four nights of performances have raised over $20,000 for the Stoughton community.

It is their desire to host a one-act pub night in the spring as well that would feature two one-act plays, but only for one night.
