Jazz artist Laila Biali comes to Assiniboia for the second concert of the new season on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prince of Wales Centre.
Biali is touring 14 Saskatchewan communities this fall. The concert is part of the Stars for Saskatchewan concert series organized by the Assiniboia and District Arts Council and the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.
Biali is an ward-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist. She has toured with Grammy award winning artists like Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting. Biali鈥檚 music has been described as a blend of traditional jazz and contemporary pop. She has performed at music festivals and concerts around the world. This year, Biali was the featured performer at the first-ever global TEDSummit.
Biali received a JUNO nomination in 2011 for her studio recording, Tracing Light, and her follow-up, Live in Concert, was named one of the 鈥淏est Albums of 2013鈥 by DownBeat Magazine. In 2015, Biali released her first album of entirely original music, House of Many Rooms. It has an indie-pop style. She will be releasing a new album of original songs alongside covers of songs by David Bowie, Coldplay and other artists.
Biali is coming to Assiniboia after a stop in Swift Current and before continuing her tour to Estevan. OSAC presents over 300 live community and school performances annually, attended by a total audience of approximately 75,000.
