Interesting facial expressions are the focus of an art exhibition at the Signal Hill Arts Centre.
Artist Angela Sandomirsky of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan is currently showing a series of paintings in Weyburn that are the result of an interest in facial expressions.
What is it about the curl of a lip, the arch of an eyebrow, the flare of a nostril, or the lines in a forehead that give people an impression of the feelings or situation that a person is experiencing? Does everyone read the same "stories" into these expressions or do personal experiences influence what people see? The paintings in this series attempt to answer these questions and to capture the stories of people's lives as read in their faces.
Painting and drawing has always been a part of Sandomirsky's life and she has been fortunate to have her work tour the province with an Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils exhibition. As well, she has been a part of a number of individual and group exhibitions in the province. She has had success at local art adjudications and has received the "Best of Show" from the 1995 Reflections of Nature wildlife art competition held in Saskatoon.
This exhibition will be on display from September 3 to 29 in the Signal Hill Gallery located on the second floor of the Signal Hill Arts Centre. Viewing hours are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
