Flower symbolism has been an important part of all world cultures. The different colours and varieties have been infused with special meanings. For example, the color yellow evokes feelings of joy and lightheartedness. Also a symbol of friendship, a bouquet bursting with yellow blooms sends a message of new beginnings and happiness.
In Greek mythology, the rose is associated with Aphrodite, Goddess of Love; likewise in ancient Egypt, roses were offered as gifts to the Goddess Isis. Roses are the most popular gift flowers in the world.
Yet the "Winter Rose," also called the Mexican Flame Leaf or poinsettia, has become a symbol of the Christmas holiday season to northern winter folks. Considered by the ancient Aztecs to be symbols of purity, the poinsettia now represents cheer, success, and is said to bring wishes of mirth and celebrations.
