Okay, be honest, have you ever had to make a U-turn because either you didn't listen carefully enough to directions or you missed an exit? I have. This past week, however, I made two unplanned round-a-bouts and neither was due to my inattention.
There was the incident in the parking lot of a local grocery store. I'd done my weekly shopping, stowed all the items in my homemade bags (yeah for going "green"), carefully situated them in the trunk of the car and as a good citizen should, returned the buggy to a nearby corral. I nestled the cart with the others, inserted the key and retrieved my twenty-five cents, all done in proper order and with expected results. What I didn't expect was to catch my foot as I began to turn around. I crashed to the pavement and stayed there - stunned. Four adults and a teen came running to help me and I am thankful to say that I'm fine now. That said it was one of the sharpest and most abrupt u-turns I can remember.
Now for the second: two days ago I travelled by bus to attend a writing event. After a six hour journey my friend met me at the depot and we excitedly discussed the next day's schedule. After an evening together, including a visit to a nearby spa, we retired for the night. Long story short, during the night my friend became very ill and she's in hospital now awaiting surgery. I returned to the bus depot that afternoon to catch the daily bus back home. Talk about a twelve hour U-turn!
Life is full of surprises, some of them pleasant, some of them not. How good to know that God delights in guiding us.
