The mob is here

This past Saturday I was part of a mob that invaded a local store - no violence, though, just lots of smiles and busy staff.

This past Saturday I was part of a mob that invaded a local store - no violence, though, just lots of smiles and busy staff. The idea isn't unique to our community but I'm glad my friend heard of the concept, set things in motion and initiated an organized way of showing support for local businesses.

Several days before the event, our leader tells us which business is 小蓝视频 targeted. Those who are unable to attend, but wish to help, have the opportunity to purchase specially made gift certificates. The biggest obligation is to keep the chosen business from knowing about our plans; the only other, to spend a minimum of twenty dollars there.

We met a few minutes before the incursion, waited for last minute instructions from the leader then, twenty dollar bill in hand, we headed for the door. With cameras flashing and folks crowding through the door, the fun began. Apart from the gratification that came with spending money to keep small business alive and well in our community, the blended look of confused surprise and genuine delight was worth the hour's commitment and the twenty bucks. If I owned a retail business I'd sure want to be on the invasion list!

Over the past four months The Mob has surprised a couple of food stores, an independent drug store and yesterday, a book store. More than one invader had visited earlier in the week and picked out their upcoming purchase, some browsed the aisles in search of some good reading and others, like me, purchased a certificate and shared tea with friends. I'll shop later.

Who can you encourage today? Whether or not it involves cash isn't the point, caring enough to share your concern, is. Someone would love to hear from you.

"that their hearts may be encouraged." Colossians 2:2
