Mankota students enjoy Banff trip

The Grade 9 to 12 students made an eventful class trip to Banff from June 8 to 11 accompanied by Mr. Ficzel, Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Blair. They had a quick road trip to the national park and set up their tents right before the rain began to pour. Many trees fell during this storm – some of which were on power lines – and they ended up moving to a different campground in the middle of the night.

The Friday was filled with fun activities such as exploring a nearby lake, completing a 4.6 km round trip Tunnel Mountain hike, doing some shopping in Banff, enjoying an evening in the Hot Springs and visiting Bow Falls.

Saturday began early with a gondola ride and exploring a museum at the top of a mountain. The students made the best of all the rain and snow that day by visting a few different historical sites and warming up back in the Hot Springs before having supper in town.

The students extend their appreciation to the many individuals who contributed to making this trip a success. Mr. Ficzel, Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Blair planned and supervised the incredible trip to Banff. The teachers prepped the wonderful meal, provided chauffeur services and kept up soggy spirits throughout the inclement weather.

The Calvin family provided the vehicle for the trip and Donette returned the trailer to Moose Jaw. The parents provided food and snacks, tents and supplies to make this trip amazing. PSSD provided the utility trailer. Superintendent Darran Teneycke brought the trailer to Mankota and the Lafleche Lions club rented the van. But it was the students who showed exemplary behavior, attitude and perseverance to make this a memorable camping trip for all of the students.
