On January 5, at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery, residents can begin to cast their vote for the People's Choice award.
The James Weir People's Choice award began over 40 years ago, when Weir approached City Hall with the idea of forming an arts council. The successful development of the Weyburn Arts Council led James Weir to donate a small sum of money to be awarded to the winner of an annual event, entitled the James Weir People's Choice exhibit. Emerging artists participate in the annual event and this year the number of entries has increased to a total of 39.
"People are asked to vote for their favourites: number one, number two and number three. There's also a kid's ballot. They're allowed to vote, but they have to be old enough to write their name," said Weyburn Arts Council curator, Ron Ror. "The public will have roughly six weeks to vote for their favourites before the winner will be announced at a reception on February12. The reception is open to all and free to attend."
All of the artwork will be on display at the gallery located in the basement of the public library.
