聽 聽 聽 聽 This past week marks a special time in the lives of North Americans: on July 1 we Canucks celebrate our 148th birthday. Canada Day will be considerably less sparkly in our part of the country, though, as traditional fireworks plus sweltering temperatures can rapidly equal raging wildfires. Happy birthday to us, anyway!
聽 聽 聽 聽 Three days later, on July 4, our national neighbours along with personal friends celebrate their big day. They鈥檙e definitely our 鈥渙lder brother鈥 having been birthed in 1776. Happy 239th y鈥檃ll!
聽 聽 聽 聽 Although I admit I鈥檓 not familiar with US election details, up here we鈥檙e gearing up for quite the fight. Given the volume of caustic comments 小蓝视频 spoken, printed and posted, it鈥檚 clear that this summer鈥檚 skies will be blue in more than one way.
聽 聽 聽 聽 The Writ hasn鈥檛 yet been dropped and Canada鈥檚 fall election campaign isn鈥檛 officially underway, but there鈥檚 already plenty of controversy swirling around. I鈥檓 not about to repeat or reinforce any of those comments but I do have a couple of thoughts of my own on the matter.
聽 聽 聽 聽 First, wouldn鈥檛 it be wonderful if we could disagree without 小蓝视频 disagreeable? Or nasty. Yes, I鈥檓 definitely a senior who misses some of the old fashioned ways of doing things but the thought of a bit more civility and kindness is definitely appealing.
聽 聽 聽 聽 Second, it would be blessedly interesting to see what would happen in both our countries if we made God sovereign in each of our personal lives. We鈥檇 still have differences of opinions but we鈥檇 also experience His promise of divine intervention and wisdom.
聽 聽 聽 聽 John Kennedy said this 鈥淒o not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men鈥; Jesus Christ said this, 鈥淥ccupy until I come. If you love Me, you will obey My commands.鈥
