This year, Farm Credit Canada is contributing $1.5 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to 78 community projects across Canada. 鈥淭he FCC AgriSpirit Fund is an investment in rural Canada,鈥 said Sophie Perreault, FCC executive vice president and chief operating officer. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about partnering with individuals and groups who are committing their time and energy for the purpose of bettering their communities.鈥
This FCC AgriSpirit Fund is allocated to support rural capital projects. In honour of Canada150, it was boosted from $1 million to $1.5 million. The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects, such as hospitals and medical centres, fire and rescue equipment, playgrounds, food banks, libraries, arenas, swimming pools, recreation areas and community centres.
This year, 1,214 applications were received from across Canada with 78 chosen. The Town of Willow Bunch pool project was one of those selected. The large number of applications demonstrated how invested rural Canadians are in their communities.
Over the past 14 years, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund has supported almost 1,100 projects, investing more than $12 million.
