Isabelle O鈥機onnor will mark her 100th birthday in a couple of days. A birthday celebration for the Assiniboia woman will be held at the Catholic Church Hall on Saturday, January 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.

When asked to describe her favourite memories Isabelle laughed, 鈥渁t nearly 100 years old, trying to remember is a tough enough job!鈥

鈥淚 have so many fond memories, but the most rewarding is 小蓝视频 able to watch my family grow!鈥 Isabelle has 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren to date.

Isabelle was born January 15, 1918 on a farm located miles southwest of Assiniboia, where she was raised with her four sisters and three brothers.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 have much money; life was simple and friendships were important,鈥 reflected Isabelle. 鈥淥n Sundays during the summer months the neighbour kids would gather at our place for ballgames. The parents would play cards and socialize together. In the winter month when the adults went to barn dances us kids would push the kitchen table towards the wall; crank up the gramophone, listen to the music and square dance.鈥

鈥淲e got our first TV in 1957, it was a highlight watching Lawrence Welk on the black and white screen rather than listening to his performances,鈥 said Isabelle. 鈥淥f course running water, flush toilets, and electricity came in the later years which was a true blessing.鈥

Isabelle completed her Grade 11 and 12 in Assiniboia. 鈥淭he school happened to be built on the site where I know reside at Eastside Court. During this time I meant my future husband Urban (Chuck) O鈥機onnor. He would come and watch me play baseball. My position was first base and I was a good hitter!鈥

Isabelle and Chuck were married in 1939; they had four girls, and worked various jobs. 鈥淎s the girls grew older I took a position at Sears managing the store for 30 years. I was involved with the Kinnette club, loved playing Bingo, enjoyed music and dancing.鈥

Isabelle was very frank when asked for her advice to the younger generation. 鈥淚 would tell them to get a good education; put their phones away for awhile and enjoy the company of others.鈥
