Update: Officers unable to locate cougar reported in Estevan

EPS says there is no immediate danger to the public.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service is reporting that a cougar has been spotted in southwest Estevan on Wednesday evening. 

In a news release on the EPS website, it was noted that at 6:55 p.m. the EPS received a report of a cougar walking along the pathway in and around the 1600-block of Third Street and down in the valley. Conservation officers have been searching for the animal, but were not immediately successful.

"While there is no immediate danger to the public, residents are asked to remain cautious about the possibility of a cougar in the area."

In a follow-up post to its Facebook page, the EPS said members and conservation officers have been in the valley near the 1600-1800 blocks of Fourth Street, investigating the report. 

In an email to the Mercury and 小蓝视频 on Thursday morning, Estevan Deputy Police Chief Warren Morrical said members were on the scene for a period of time on Wednesday night, but were unable to locate the animal or confirm that it was in fact a cougar. 

No further sightings were reported to the EPS.
