Redvers Rockets take the lead in Big Six final

REDVERS – The Redvers Rockets have taken an early lead in the Big Six Hockey League final against the Moosomin Rangers.

The top-seeded Rockets defeated second-ranked Moosomin 7-4 on March 11 in Redvers in Game 1 of the best-of-five final. Game 2 is set for March 13 in Moosomin.

Kenton Miller had two goals and two assists for Redvers, while Naton Miller scored twice. Jordon Miller, Drew Hoff and Corey Millette also found the back of the net. Cody Matthewson was in goal.

Ryker Cole, Taylor Sanheim, Phil Fath and Brad Cole scored for Moosomin, with Bud Holloway assisting on all four goals. Levi Horn was the Rangers' goalie.

Redvers and Moosomin are meeting in the league final for the third straight year. Redvers won the title in 2023, while the Rangers took the championship the previous year.

Game 3 of this year's final is set for March 18. Game 4, if necessary, will be played on March 20, and Game 5 would take place on March 25.


Redvers and Moosomin have also advanced to the provincial final in their respective Hockey Saskatchewan senior tournaments.

The Rockets were dominant in the senior D south final against Radville, sweeping the best-of-three series in two games and outscoring Radville 19-5. Redvers won Game 1 by a score of 9-3 on home ice on March 7 and took Game 2 with a 10-2 victory the following night in Radville.

Redvers will play either Delisle or Edam in the provincial final.

Moosomin, meanwhile, is off to the senior B provincial final after defeating Langenburg in three games. Moosomin opened the series with a 5-4 victory on Feb. 28. Langenburg bounced back with a 6-5 win on March 7, but Moosomin secured the series with a 3-2 victory two days later. The road team won all three games.

The Rangers will face Davidson in the best-of-three provincial final.
