ESTEVAN — Two women have been nominated for the 2025 Equity and Inclusion Award (Non-traditional, Overcoming Barriers), presented by Saskatchewan Blue Cross. This award honours women who demonstrate leadership, resilience and activism while overcoming barriers to success. It celebrates those making lasting improvements for marginalized communities through personal and professional efforts.
This year’s nominees are Kari Lawrence and Desiree DaSilva.

Kari Lawrence

Lawrence grew up on a farm outside Moose Jaw, where she was introduced to the trades at age 10 by her father, a flooring installer. From a young age, she embraced hands-on work, developing a passion for the construction industry — particularly shingling, siding, painting and drywall finishing.
After moving to Estevan 16 years ago, Lawrence began working as a labourer with Sector 1 Construction in her early 30s. Her dedication, skill and leadership propelled her to the role of foreman and eventually general manager of First General Estevan, a subsidiary of Sector 1. In an industry still largely dominated by men, Lawrence has forged her own path, challenging gender expectations and opening doors for others.
A mother to Jesi, Jace and bonus kids Phoenix and Hunter, Lawrence shares her life with her partner Mike and their dog Siris. Whether she’s snowmobiling, crafting or cooking for her family, she leads with the same strength and authenticity that defines her professional journey.
Desiree DaSilva

DaSilva is a dedicated community builder in Estevan, working to make the city more inclusive, connected and active. She works in two senior care homes, curls weekly, and will begin teaching youth curling next year — all while raising her family and staying deeply involved in local life.
DaSilva is the founder of Estevan 小蓝视频ern Impact, the city’s first arm wrestling club. Through this initiative, she not only competes but creates a supportive and empowering environment for youth and adults alike. Her leadership in a sport not traditionally associated with women has been highlighted in local media, helping to break down stereotypes and expand opportunities for others.
Whether she’s fundraising, mentoring, volunteering or caregiving, DaSilva’s work across multiple fields is rooted in a consistent mission: to build a more inclusive, vibrant Estevan for all.
The 2025 小蓝视频east Women of Distinction Awards luncheon will take place May 2 at the Power Dodge Curling Centre.
