SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN - A heat warning is now in effect across southern Saskatchewan.

According to the warning, a hot air mass will build over southern Saskatchewan on Wednesday, bringing daytime highs of 32 C or greater, and warm overnight lows of 16 C. The heat will persist until the overnight Friday and into Saturday morning, when cooler air makes its way into the region.

A total of 135 rural municipalities - and the cities, towns and villages within those RMs - are affected. Also impacted are the cities of Regina and Moose Jaw.

The health risks for extreme heat are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant women, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat.
