Estevan figure skaters compete in Dalmeny, Moose Jaw

Skaters brought home medals from both events.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Figure Skating Club has been busy to start 2024, sending skaters to a couple of meets.

Eight skaters travelled to Dalmeny for a regional competition on Jan. 10 and 11. Skaters competed in anywhere from one to three events.

The club brought five medals home, Rachel Duncan earned a gold medal for her long program and silver for her short. McKenna Bohn won a silver for her short program. Braxton Pouteaux won a silver for her long program, and Meeka Gedak won a bronze in her elements event.

Janiyah Laforga, Sofia Erana Schmegelsky, Juri Kim and Sofiia Dotsenko also competed at the event.

Club coach Ashley Piper said it was an overall successful weekend. Some skaters achieved personal best scores, some landed jumps they had not previously landed in competition and for one skater, this was her first time competing.

The club also sent five skaters to the Region 2, 3, 4 and 5 Invitational in Moose Jaw on Jan. 19.

Dotsenko competed in Star 2. Kim, Layla Stark and Alexis Kolenz skated in Star 3, and Madison Nielson earned herself a bronze medal for her performance in Star 4.
