Additional candidates file papers for city, RM elections

An update on the civic election in Estevan.

ESTEVAN - A former Estevan city councillor is the latest person to file nomination papers for the upcoming civic election.

Brian Johnson, who was on council from 2000-2016, filed his papers on Friday. He was elected in 2000 as a councillor, and re-elected in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2012. Johnson was defeated in the 2016 councillor race. 

Three candidates have now filed nomination forms for councillor. Johnson joins incumbent Coun. Shelly Veroba and newcomer Robin Wog in the race. 

Coun. Tony Sernick is the only candidate to have filed for mayor thus far.

As for the other votes, incumbent trustee Kevin Keating filed his nomination to be one of the two Estevan trustees on the 小蓝视频 East Cornerstone Public School Division's board.

Nobody has filed papers for the two Estevan trustee roles for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division's board.

Estevan city hall will be closed Monday due to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

In the RM of Estevan, incumbent Coun. Kevin Daoust, who represents Division 3, has filed his necessary forms. 

Incumbent Reeve Jason LeBlanc has filed his papers for a first full term in that role, while Ramona Dukart is seeking another term as the Division 5 councillor. Newcomer Suzanne McNabb, who is vying for councillor in Division 1, has also filed her forms. 

The RM will hold elections for reeve and councillors in Divisions 1, 3 and 5 this year.

The deadline to file nomination papers for city and RM councils, and for the school boards, is Oct. 9.

The civic election is Nov. 13.
