LEVEILLE, Pierre Noel
December 19, 1922 - September 4, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Leveille, who passed peacefully in his sleep at the Trillium Lodge in Parksville B.C. at the age of 90 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years Ellen; children Michele (Grant) McCaughey, Peter (Sue), Joel (Michelle) and Bart; stepchildren Mark Olson and Arlen Hare; grandchildren Sean (Danette), Erin (Bryce), Peter, Simeon, Paul, Nathan, Michael, Jake and Troy; great grandchildren Keegan, Gavin and Scarlett; brothers Victor, John (Joan); sister Mary Beriault and his first wife Irene Martel. He was predeceased by his parents Pierre and Gabrielle Leveille, and his brothers Joseph and Paul (Dolly).
Peter was born in Alida, Saskatchewan and attended Lebel School and Oxbow High School. He worked at the Saskatchewan Co-op Creamery for one year before enlisting in the R.C.A.F and was trained as a wireless operator, air crew. He was sent overseas and was attached to the 426th R.C.A.F. squadron at Newark, Yorkshire, England and subsequently was transferred to the Royal Air Force, attached to the 100th squadron stationed in Grimsby, England. His total flying time in the service was 615 hours. After having completed a term of voluntary service during an emergency, he was discharged on September 13th, 1945 and transferred to the R.C.A.F. reserve. He was awarded the 1939- 1945 Star (Battle of Britain), France and Germany Star (for battle over Europe), the Defence Medal (King's Commendation for brave conduct), and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
He married Irene Martel in 1946 and after moving to Winnipeg had four children, Michele, Peter, Joel and Bart. He began work at Trans Canada Airlines which later became Air Canada and worked there until he retired after 28 years. He married Ellen Olson in 1975, lived in Richer Manitoba and then Parksville, B.C. He was a member of the Parksville Legion for 27 years.
Peter was known for his three passions: repair/home improvement work, playing cribbage and making wine. He loved his family dearly and made regular trips to see everyone, most recently at the Leveille family reunion in 2012.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church in Cantal Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 5th, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with interment to follow in St. Raphael Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the CNIB.
