If you see snowplows or sanding trucks with blue and amber flashing lights please give them time and space to work.

Freezing rain can create icy surfaces, increasing the risk of slipping and longer stopping distances.

SASKATOON - Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting intermittent snow and/or freezing rain beginning Thursday morning, along with strong east winds gusting up to 60 km/h. The city is prepared to respond to maintain safe roadways and driving conditions.

These conditions could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility, making driving difficult, especially on open roads and bridges. Open areas are particularly vulnerable to snow drifting, with some streets accumulating deep drifts. Please avoid driving through these drifts if possible. Crews will clear them with graders and plows when visibility improves.

Freezing rain can create icy surfaces, increasing the risk of slipping and longer stopping distances.

By Thursday evening the risk of freezing rain will diminish but heavier snowfall is expected overnight. Winds will also begin to ease. On Friday light flurries may continue until the afternoon. Saskatoon is expected to receive 2-5 cm of snow, though in a worst-case scenario totals could reach 10-12 cm.

City of Saskatoon crews will be out monitoring and clearing roads to help keep travel as safe as possible. If you see snowplows or sanding trucks with blue and amber flashing lights please give them time and space to work. Stay well back, avoid passing and drive with caution around snow-clearing equipment. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, drive according to conditions and allow extra travel time.
