Police kept busy following many bear spray reports in city

SASKATOON - A number of youth are facing weapons-related charges following multiple bear spray related incidents reported on Saturday afternoon.

At 4 p.m. on April 12, police were dispatched to a bus terminal in the 300 block of Confederation Drive for a reported bear spray incident involving approximately a dozen people.

While officers were en route, a second call was received by Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Communications regarding a bear spray incident across the street in the 3100 block of Laurier Drive.

The group reportedly fled into a nearby pedestrian tunnel.

Police located the suspects near Bedford Road and Montreal Avenue.

Eleven individuals were searched and police located imitation firearms, bear spray, a machete, knives and an expandable baton.

Five male youths, ranging from 15- to 17-years-of-age, are facing a total of 17 charges relating to firearms and weapons.

The investigation is ongoing.
