Weyburn Red Wings battle hard, win 9-2 vs Estevan Bruins

All SJHL teams will gather for in Warman for the Showcase, to be held Sunday, September 25 to Wednesday, September 28.

WEYBURN - The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings battled hard during their home opener, winning 9-2 against the Estevan Bruins on Friday night.

It was a strong first period for the Red Wings, with three goals scored within the first 10 minutes of play. Kirk Mullen scored twice in the first five minutes, with assists from Mi-Kwan Tallman and Mathieu Gaurtier both times.

Ethan Whillans scored at the 7:21 mark, assisted by Blake Norris. Gautier scored a powerplay goal later in the period, at the 16:53 mark, assisted by Ian Maier and Mullen.

It was not until later in the second period, when Jackson Hassman scored an unassisted lead to bring the score to 4-0 for the Wings. Brady Wilson of the Bruins scored their first goal of the evening, 16 seconds later, with the assist from Logan Ziegler. Kirk Muller later scored a power play goal at the 19:12 mark, assisted by Sam Boldt and Mathieu Gautier.

Early in the third period, Owen Miley scored the second goal of the night for the Bruins, during a power play with the assist from Kade Runke.

The Wings dominated the last half of the period, scoring three more times to secure the win. Mi-Kwan Tallman scored at 10:01, assisted by Ethan Whillans, Elijah Anderson had an unassisted goal at 12:20, and Jakob Kalin scored at 15:23, assisted by Simon Pollock.

All SJHL teams will gather for in Warman for the Showcase, to be held Sunday, September 25 to Wednesday, September 28. During the Showcase, the Wings will have a home game against Flin Flon on Monday, September 26, and an away game against Battleford on Tuesday, September 27.

The Bruins will be the designated home team against Humboldt on Tuesday, September 27, and an away game against Nipawin on Wednesday, September 28.
