The U of R raised concerns about URSU's 2024 financial statements.

REGINA - After raising concerns with the University of Regina Students' Union (URSU), the U of R has decided to terminate the agreement in which the university collects student fees on behalf of the group.

The concerns stemmed from 2024 when the U of R raised red flags with URSU’s financial statements.

Over the past few months, the U of R said they tried working with URSU, offering governance and financial assistance.

Despite trying to work with the student union, URSU had not undertaken the steps recommended by the U of R.

From this, the U of R said they "lost confidence in the URSU’s ability to serve and represent the university students."

With this announcement, the U of R “wishes to assure students that core student services will continue in the Fall 2025 term, as will the collection of student fees that fund those services. The necessary arrangements will be put in place over the coming months."

The U of R also acknowledged the steps taken by the URSU’s student members may alter how the views of students at the U of R are represented.

"It is critical for that process to be driven by and for students, and we hope that it leads to a sustainable path forward to an effective and accountable student representative organization," the U of R said.
