REGINA — SUMA’s “We are URBAN.” campaign celebrates all of member communities — from the smallest villages to the largest cities — and highlights all the ways that they serve their residents and surrounding areas, a SUMA press release states.
Through billboards across Saskatchewan and posts on social media, the initiative spotlights the facilities, services, landmarks and features that make Saskatchewan cities, towns, villages, resort villages and northern municipalities urban hubs bringing people together.
“Our urban municipalities are the hubs for residents and businesses across the province,” said SUMA president Randy Goulden.
“Whether the community is a large town or a small village, they work to meet needs beyond those of their own residents. Take any community hockey rink, for example: that’s the heart of many a town, and the gathering place for those who live out of town too. At SUMA, we’re recognizing all of the ways our municipalities serve the Saskatchewan population.”
Over the next few weeks billboards featuring several SUMA municipalities will be installed. The featured communities represent all SUMA members, SUMA says.
“They also challenge our understanding of what urban means, recognizing that places we are quick to label as “rural” communities are in fact urban,” the release states.
The campaign will also use social media to showcase images and stories that residents submit about their communities and highlight the parts of their community that they are most proud of. Follow the campaign on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
