Snowbirds technician charged with firearms offences after search of Bushell Park home

Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a 13-year veteran of the Canadian Forces with four firearms offences after a Dec. 10 search warrant was executed at CFB Moose Jaw.

MOOSE JAW — Saskatchewan RCMP have charged Corporal Rhys Paradis with four firearms offences after a Dec. 10 search warrant was executed at CFB Moose Jaw.

Paradis is a 13-year veteran of the Canadian Forces who began his military career in the army as a weapons technician in 2008. He made the switch to the air force in 2015 as an aircraft structures technician.

Paradis was posted to 431 Air Demonstration Squadron (the Snowbirds) in 2017 and completed his trade apprenticeship at CFB Moose Jaw.

On Dec. 10, the RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) searched Paradis’ home in Bushell Park with the assistance of Moose Jaw RCMP, Saskatchewan RCMP’s National Weapons Enforcement Team, and the Moose Jaw Police Service.

Gun parts were seized along with two over-capacity magazines.

The charges laid against Paradis are:

  • 1 count, manufacturing a restricted weapon, Section 99, Criminal Code
  • 1 count, unlawful possession of a restricted firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, unlawful possession of a prohibited device, Section 91(2), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, unlicensed possession of a restricted firearm with readily-accessible ammunition, Section 95(b), Criminal Code

He will appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Jan. 5, 2022.
