REGINA - Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck took her party’s message to the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

It was set up as a question-and-answer session hosted by Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce President Prabha Ramaswamy.

The questions focused mainly on the carbon tax, small business tax and affordability measures.

“I will work to deliver change and support the prosperity that we once enjoyed,” Beck said. “I’m excited to talk to you about our vision for the province — a vision of change that allows us to get back to our rightful place as economic leaders, grow the economy and ensure Saskatchewan families, seniors, and businesses enjoy the success they deserve.”

The NDP are promising a suite of affordability measures to help ease the higher costs of everything from rent and mortgages, to groceries and gas.

The NDP say they will pause the provincial gas tax for six months within hours of forming government. Beck also said the NDP would remove the PST from children’s clothing and groceries before Christmas of this year.

Beck took time to refute some of the accusations from the Sask Party. Beck says the NDP is against the carbon tax, and is promising not to raise taxes, and balance the budget in their first term in government. Beck says the NDP will not follow through on an increase to the small business tax the Sask Party has planned for the new year.

“It is time for change, and, if elected, I promise that both myself and my caucus will work to deliver change and support the prosperity that we once enjoyed.”

The provincial election campaign is expected to start on Tuesday, with election day set for Monday, Oct. 28.
