Skogafoss - May 04, 2018: Rainbows at the Skogafoss waterfall, Iceland

Melvin John was the youngest of six siblings. He was born to Margaret Crookedneck and Louis Keenatch on January 28, 1976 in Saskatoon, SK. Melvin was special to all of his family and close friends and to all the youngsters he and his wife Velma have come to adopt over the years. Melvin was funny and sarcastic, always having good comebacks. He loved to have a good time, always laughing. He and Velma shared a unique love for music which they had a way of communicating to each other only they could understand. Melvin had met Velma at a sundance while they were still young. She later became his childhood sweetheart and over the years they have built a loving life together. Melvin had always enjoyed working with his hands. Whenever he could he took the time to share with the youngsters who have come to know him as “Dad.” They were always eager to learn and most were grateful for the time they spent learning the new skills which most of them later became good at. He was always helping in any way he could, whenever he could. Melvin enjoyed his passion for fixing cars. He also worked carpentry and renovations with his nephew Malcolm, which he really loved doing.

Melvin and Velma’s home was always full and busy; they have always enjoyed the company and were always surrounded by people who share a love for them, for they took the time to reach out and show their love to whoever needed it over the years. He and his wife have helped out so many that had been cast out, lost, and abandoned to society. Which has given most a new sense of life and respect for one another. We have had many moments with Melvin. These are special memories that we will all cherish with us forever. He was a wonderful person with a very positive outlook despite all of the hardships and difficulties which him and Velma have encountered throughout their life together. The uniqueness of his personality earned him the respect and friendships of many people who he has come to know over the years.

“My husband was a very kind and generous person, which is why I loved him all these years. He was truly beautiful in my eyes and I am very blessed to have shared the last 36 years that we cherished. I truly miss him very much and will continue to stay strong for him.”

-His loving wife, Velma D. Crookedneck.
