John Wandler of Macklin won the Sportsman Award at Unity’s midget hockey tournament. Unity made it to the final game but lost to Biggar.
The board of Wilkie School Unit No. 59 passed a motion to try to arrange a meeting with representatives of the board of the St. George Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 31 “to further discuss class exchange and/or joint high school operation in Wilkie.”
In a game between the Unity Canucks and the Wilkie Outlaws, Ken Riess scored the only goal for Unity while Wilkie’s Rick Cameron, Herb Schell and Mick Knisley all found the back of the net.

Paulette Lysyshyn, a Unity housewife, chalked up a win in her grassroots campaign against Bernardins. The company announced they would make 20 years worth of 28-millimetre Gem jar lids “in a one-year, one-time offer.” Lysyshyn’s petition had resulted in a nation-wide outcry and appearances for her on multiple radio shows, including in the USA.
Wally Lorenz won the Saskatchewan Party nomination for Battleford- Cut Knife. He committed to remaining as mayor of Wilkie until the municipal election in the fall.
Unity town council held a public meeting to discuss recycling and waste management. Residents were told that starting in March all trash would have to be bagged and labels costing $1 each would have to be placed on each bag. The tags were intended to encourage recycling and help pay for the new landfill.
