Unity's Paw Park incurs substantial damage

Blatant vandalism or hit and run?

UNITY — The morning of Sept. 6, it was discovered that extensive damage had been done to an area just outside of the off-leash dog park and the culprits appeared to have lost their muffler and spoiler off the vehicle that did the damage.

The Paw Park social media post says, “Trees have been here for 10 years and were growing beautifully and now it is all gone on the north side which included 12 six-foot evergreens.”

A road sign near the area was also downed

The damage was reported to the RCMP.

Laura Howdle who worked tirelessly to help establish the park in Unity, as well as longtime volunteer says, “The park is done 100 per cent with volunteers, donations and fundraising efforts. To have this destruction done is very disheartening. We have developed this area to provide a safe and green space for … dog owners and visitors to our community to use and for everyone to enjoy.”

Howdle adds, “Last year we experienced some damage in parking area. We may have to erect cameras and hope they don’t also get stolen or damaged.” Cameras would add another expense to be funded by this non-profit organization.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Unity RCMP.
