A cow belonging to Ron Kletzel of Denzil became the first French Charalois cow in Canada to have a second set of twin heifer calves.
Si Campbell won the Unity Golf Club Handicap Championship. Moving on to compete for the Boyd Cup in North Battleford was the team of Campbell, Mo Miller, Jim Metcalfe, Ross Morrison and Ralph Seymour.
A new Robinson store, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Rivett, opened at Wilkie. Opening day specials included ladies’ stretch panty hose and men’s stretch dress socks, each for 38¢ and girls’ brushed denim pants for $3.97.

An eight-foot tall peace pole with messages of peace written in different languages, originally from Japan and one of only eight in Saskatchewan, was unveiled in front of McLurg High School in Wilkie, to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks in New York.
Former Wilkie archer Dave Stevens came back with a gold medal from the Canadian National 3D Archery competition held in Nova Scotia. Ross Johnston placed 15th in the master division and Brian Hawkins was seventh in the MBR.
Local veterans Bill Fleming and Cec Hayward were to be receiving medals from the county of Holland, who were issuing commemorative medals for Canadian soldiers who served in Holland during the war.
Donated hay from Eastern Canada – due to drought in Western Canada – was unloaded from the Hay West train cars in Wilkie, for delivery to local farmers who’d won the hay lottery.
