Erica Sorenson was named Most Outstanding Performer of the Unity Music Festival. Erica and Chrystal DeRoo were both recommended to provincials, for piano and voice respectively. Edith Wallace received a special Volunteer Award from the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association.
Wilkie native A.J. Keller, encouraged by mother Cheryl, entered a “My Future Is Here” writing contest and won. His rant was recorded and would be broadcast on Rawlco radio stations and on CTV throughout the summer.
Marianne Fritz, Margaret Skinner and Kaitlyn Cey received merit awards from the Wilkie CWL in recognition of their good works in the community.

The Unity and District Chamber of Commerce presented town council with the results of a survey regarding shop closings. Results were in favour of: Monday closing 854, Wednesday closing 173 and Saturday closing 288. A lengthy discussion followed by a proposal to prepare a bylaw to rescind the Wednesday Half-Day Closing Bylaw.
Roger Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mitchell of Unity, at the age of 15, won several hockey awards during his Junior B season in Alberta as a member of the Hanna Ambassadors team. He was the top scorer for his team and was named Most Inspirational Player as well as MVP.
Mrs. Jim Cooper of Senlac won a trip for two to Hawaii from Provost Livestock Exchange, which awarded the trip in celebration of its second anniversary.
Drug store specials included sunglasses, two for 59 cents, and Kodak Pocket Instamatic 20 cameras for less than $35, while one of the grocery stores was advertising pantihose for 49 cents a pair.
