Saskatchewan residents travelling to Europe were urged to have their smallpox vaccinations, due to an outbreak in Yugoslavia and elsewhere in Europe. Travellers returning to Canada from Europe were required to carry an international certificate of vaccination.

A ribbon-cutting 小蓝视频 for a new animal care centre took place at midnight during a Unity Agricultural Society dance. Taking part in the 小蓝视频 were Unity Mayor Walter Haight, Elmer Phillipson D.V.M.; Mrs. Phillipson, Norma Maxwell, Bruce Scott, Mrs. Weeks and Fred Weeks D.V.M.

Co-op grocery features of the week included a 20-pound bag of enriched flour for $1.59 and a four-roll package of toilet paper for 55 cents.

Unity vet Dr. Fred Weeks went to Kerrobert to assist with the birth of a 197-pound Charolais calf at the Harvey Heidt farm. Weeks said a160-pound calf was the largest he had seen previously.

Mary Lou Schechtel was named 2001 Citizen of the Year in Denzil.

Rhonda Laturnus of Tramping Lake was headed to Hawaii to run in an Arthritis Society Joints in Motion marathon, on behalf of arthritis sufferer Wanda Gumpinger. Gumpinger also motivated Dr. Linda Bloem to complete a Joints in Motion marathon in Disneyland earlier in the year.

Female hockey was in the news with the Unity bantam female Laves winning provincials and the midgets winning the April Ice Tournament in Calgary, Alta. Graduating from minor hockey after the season were Stephanie Clark, Kylee Heintz, Kristy Heitt, Raelene Hill, Amanda Lloyd and Nicole Robertson.
