Unity U15 Lazers off to provincial northern final, wins continue for other teams

The provincial playoff picture is narrowing down for minor hockey teams in Unity, Wilkie, Kerrobert and Macklin

UNITY — Communities continue to cheer on the remaining teams in the final series of provincial playoffs. League playoffs are set to be underway for minor hockey teams in Luseland, Kerrobert, Macklin, Unity and Wilkie, however, as of Feb. 27, no playoff schedules are listed on the Highway 14 website.

The U15 Lazers are the last minor hockey team in Unity still in provincial playoffs. The team continues to shine as they won their third round, sweeping Humboldt. They now await the winner of Tisdale and Nipawin for the provincial northern final.

League playoffs will include U18, U15, U13 teams while the U11 and U9 divisions will play in tournament style for their league playoff finales.

Kerrobert U18 Tigers are also the lone minor hockey team from their community still competing in provincial playoffs, defeating Hillmond in round one and facing Macklin in round two with the schedule not yet finalized

Kerrobert teams are awaiting their start to league playoffs as well

Macklin Minor Hockey teams are seeing great success in their provincial quests with three teams of U18, U15 and U13 still in the hunt for spots in their respective provincial finals.

Macklin U18 are competing in the D division and have won their way to their next series, now playing familiar rivals Kerrobert Tigers.

In the U15 D division, Macklin, according to Hockey Sask. website, is awaiting the winner of the Carrot River/Lashburn series to continue their playoff drive.

In U13, Macklin received a bye to the second round and made quick work in two games of defeating Neilburg, advancing them to round three playing Muenster. Hockey Sask. website shows Macklin as winning game one of this best-of-three series.

For the Wilkie Outlaws and National Outlaws, the U13 National Outlaws were the lone team still left in the provincial playoff hunt. The Press-Herald has learned the team lost two games in their series against Hague and have now been eliminated from provincial playoffs.

All community teams from Kerrobert, Luseland, Macklin, Unity and Wilkie in the U11 and U9 divisions will experience their league playoffs in a tournament version coming up in early March
