Unity Fire Chief: don't leave after calling 9-1-1

As spring approaches, fire departments remind residents to be mindful of changing ice conditions and running water as both can be very unpredictable

UNITY- Unity’s Fire Chief, Dwaine Kopp, says February was quiet with their team responding to three calls that included a STARS landing at the hospital and a false alarm for a security system in a commercial building.

The third call was a motor vehicle collision.

Kopp puts out this reminder to residents, “I would just like to remind people that once 9-1-1- has been called, please remain at the scene until emergency vehicles show up, even if there are no injuries or much damage.”

Kopp adds, “There may be underlying conditions that you don’t see, especially if your heart is racing and you’re not thinking straight.”

As spring approaches, Unity joins with other fire departments in reminding residents to be mindful of changing ice conditions and running water as both can be very unpredictable, and conditions can change quickly. Trouble can arrive quickly in icy water.

This division of Unity’s protective services continues to put the call out for new members to help fill their team for response when the alarm bell rings. Interested parties can contact any member of the fie department for details or to join.
