After Delta Co-op decided to host “Fundraising Fridays” and opened up registration for service groups, teams, clubs, schools and other organizations in Unity, Wilkie and Macklin, the results show the impact of something as simple as a burger sale. Well over 40 local groups benefitted from those sales and a total of $36,653.59 went to support various local initiatives.
That number doesn’t include funds raised at other burger sales, hosted independently by such groups as the Unity branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, Wilkie Minor Ball and the Unity Credit Union Aquatic Centre, to name but a few.
Delta Co-op’s Fundraising Fridays ran from May 17 to and including Sept. 6, giving up to 17 organizations in each of the three communities an opportunity to raise money for their program or cause.
Macklin groups received a total of $9,570.06, while Wilkie’s barbecues raised a total of $13,096.87. In Unity, the total amount raised over the 17 weeks was $13,986.66.
Along with 小蓝视频 able to use the co-ops' barbecues and parking lots, each group received hamburgers, buns, etc., at cost for their event. Delta Co-op also topped up the funds raised at each of the 51 fundraisers by $100.
