UNITY — Sask. West Hockey teams left in provincial playoffs include only two teams remaining as the Wilkie Outlaws and Macklin Mohawks continue to play on.
The Mohawks opened their provincial series against the Kenaston Blizzards and held on for a 4-3 win even though the Blizzards outshot the hawks 45-30.
The Mohawks in SWHL playoffs are in the league semi-final against the Edam 3-stars and lost their opening game in a best of five series. Macklin will head to Edam for game three on Feb. 26 and the final games will be March 4-6 in the series.
The Wilkie Outlaws continue their hot streak in both provincial and league playoffs, keeping the SaskCan arena full of fans cheering loudly for some more championship banners to be won and hung in the rafters.
The Outlaws won the opening game of their best of five series by a score of 5-3 against the Kindersley Klippers in the league semi final, and will play next on Feb. 26 on the road, with the remaining three games set for March 1, 6 and 9. Blake Young scored a hat trick. Eleven penalties were assessed in the first period, with the Outlaws earning half of those infractions, however, things seemed to settle down for the remaining two periods.
In provincial playdowns, the Outlaws also swept the Delisle Bruins in a best of three series. Wilkie is playing Hafford Hawks in the next round, with the opening game in the series at SaskCan arena Feb. 20. In unfamiliar territory, the Outlaws dropped their opening game in this provincial series by a score of 4-3, even though they outshot the Hawks 47-29. Game two will be Hafford Feb. 25 and game three, if needed, is set for Feb. 27.
Kerrobert Tigers were eliminated by the Kyle Elks in their provincial quest, while Macklin eliminated the cats from SWHL playoffs, thus ending their season of hockey.
Unity Miners are also eliminated from SWHL league playoffs by the Kindersley Klippers and did not enter a team in provincial playoffs.
