One Wilkie home goes 'all out' for Halloween

Halloween is a celebration that goes back to the Druids, an Irish Celtic culture.

It is traditionally celebrated each year on October 31. The Druids believed that the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil spirits. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

Kevin and Loretta Sloboda have turned their property on 4th Street West in Wilkie into a haunted house with a very scary yard, where you might encounter a skeleton or two. A perfect place to trick-or-treat.

It reminds me of the story about two girls who were walking home from a party celebrating their friend’s birthday. It was late at night and dark. One girl suggested that they take a shortcut through the cemetery. They met up with a man just inside the gate, told him they were scared and asked him to walk with them through the cemetery. “Of course,” said the man, “I used to be scared of cemeteries too when I was alive!”
