UNITY—School is back in session for the year and the schools are happy to see good enrollment numbers. In a recent news release, Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC) said the number of full-time students increased from 3,300 in its first year to 3,800 in the second. Part-time enrollment numbers did dip from 5,400 students to 3,400.
At the elementary level, St. Peter’s School in Unity saw a slight decrease as the outgoing Grade 6 class was larger than the incoming Kindergarten class, totaling 121 students. Unity Public School also saw a slight decrease of 10 students, resulting in 235 students. Wilkie’s elementary school, Norman Carter, said enrollment numbers kept steady from last year with 147 students registered. The number of students in the high school has gone up from last year, with 325 pupils roaming the halls of Unity Composite.
While many of the new faces in the school halls belong to students, this year had several new faces of facility members. While many of the staff are new to the area, there are some who have been a part of the community for some time. The 2024-25 school year welcomed five new teachers at the Unity Composite High School and seven new staff members at St. Peter’s School. Be sure to say hello when you see their friendly faces.
My name is Morgan Svenkeson. I grew up in Kinistino, which is a small town of about 700 people, and graduated in 2018. I attended the University of Saskatchewan where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology as well as my Education degree which focuses on biology and chemistry at the high school level. Outside of school, I have a passion for sports. I have played most school sports, but basketball and volleyball were my focuses. I have spent many hours coaching and refereeing these sports as well. I also have a passion for reading and spend a lot of my spare time absorbing anything and everything I can get my hands on. I am excited to join the Unity community and start this new chapter of my life in a place that seems to offer a lot of opportunities!

I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Unity, as I start a new chapter of my teaching career at UCHS!
