Softball wrap up

After dual medals won by Macklin Lakers softball in 2022, the only team to come home with a Softball Sask. provincial medal in 2023 was the U15 Macklin Lakers girls. The team won silver in 2022.

Hennessy MacKinnon and Brooklyn Kraft of Kerrobert were part of the provincial winning team that had the Macklin Lakers going undefeated throughout the 29-team tournament. The Lakers remained strong through playoffs beating Kindersley in the quarter-final, Rosetown in the semifinal and a 6-4 victory over Swift Current in the final, earning gold.

While there are a number of Unity Panthers softball teams in the champions list on Softball Sask. as well as pictured on Unity’s Sports Wall of Fame, 2023 provincial titles eluded Unity teams.

However, Unity U19 Panther’s players Alexis Elder and Dailyn Wagner were picked up by the Battlefords Bandits to compete at Western Canadian U19 championships in August.

The Unity 18U Cardinals hosted provincials in Unity July 21-23 and after going undefeated in round robin lost a tough 11-inning game to the eventual provincial winner, Dinsmore Dynamos.

A 22U baseball team was assembled to play as Team Saskatchewan that includes five Unity players and will compete August long weekend in Winnipeg.

Connor Ralston, Kaden Sperle and Austin Sittler were picked up by the Lumsden Cubs to compete at Western Canadians 15U championships in Kelowna, B.C.
