WILKIE - The continued success story for the high school wrestling program that is based out of McLurg High School continues to be written.
Regional competition that took place in Meadow Lake March 3-4 resulted in both the boys and the girls earning 3A championships and qualifying nine wrestling athletes for provincials upcoming in Regina March 17-18.
Coach Chris Kent, on the club’s Facebook page, says, “The McLurg Team also had the third highest total points at the tournament beating out four of the other 5A schools and all of the other 3A and 4A.schools. So proud of all their hard work.”

Kent adds in his Facebook post, “Athletes that did not qualify for provincials were an integral part of our success as they share in both team trophies. Jeremy Gallant scored the third most points in a match out of the entire tournament.”
“The Unity team did also not disappoint earning a bronze in 3A for the team and having all boys qualify for provincials. (Jamal 4th, Willem 4th and Steyn, Bronze). Big thank you to the Unity head coach, Kyra Huber, and our fellow coaches Suki Pangalia and Koralie Huber for all the hard work they do. “
Kent noted the team’s appreciation for parents and families for their support as well as Christopher Brownrigg and all of Meadow Lake for putting on one of the smoothest regional championships ever.
