Mayor Del Frari welcomes back Unity Western Days

First Avenue construction project and regional emergency measures organization highlights of the monthly mayor's report from Unity.

UNITY — We welcome everyone to Unity Western Days in town this weekend. Check out all the great activities in the posters around town and your local paper.

The Unity Credit Union Aquatic Centre opened May 29 for the season with some free swimming. Check out the town’s website or the pool’s Facebook page for schedules, programming and updates.

Have you noticed the new banners up on the light posts downtown? These additions are courtesy of the Unity Chamber of Commerce and the town of Unity. It is also nice to see all the flowers planted around town, and thanks to our public works crew for the clean streets.

Speaking of cleaning, the adopt-a-block program has ended, and we genuinely appreciate those who took part, along with prize sponsors. Everyone was challenged this spring with the relentless wind. Another reminder to be a responsible pet owner and clean up after your pets.

We will be considering a regional emergency measures organization. We currently work jointly with the R.M. Of Round Valley No. 410. The proposal from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is to form one group with one plan. This idea will be presented to both councils for input.

The Saskatchewan Municipal Board will be finished with the public hearing process for the 1st Avenue project. Once we hear back from them with confirmation, we will be able to start construction in earnest. The board realizes we have significant grants tied to this project.

The Unity Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a social for their members this month. If you are a local business owner/ operator, come join the chamber. They have excellent social media promotions for members and it is a great networking opportunity when the meetings are once a month over lunch. Our businesses are the heartbeat of our community. It is going to be exciting to see at least two new businesses opening soon downtown. Thanks for your support of our local economy.

Start planning to attend the Canada Day celebrations at the Unity and District Heritage Museum. They have lined up a wonderful day of activities, entertainment and, of course, fireworks. Watch for posters and if you are interested, they can always use volunteers.

We have additional staffing changes coming to the town of Unity. Stacy Godin will be moving into the position of office manager. We will then be filling the position of accounts payable clerk. With these changes, management duties will shift in some areas. We will have people in place for the jobs that are 小蓝视频 done off the corner of a desk right now. We are looking to serve our taxpayers as efficiently as possible.

I am often available if you have questions. I enjoy coffee meetings at Parkview and will be going to Heritage Manor. If the residents of 8th Avenue Estates and Luther Place would be interested, I would gladly attend.
