Highway 21 rerouting has begun

First Avenue construction project will cause some minor inconveniences

UNITY — Council and staff will have our budget finalized this month. We will not have a mill rate increase this year, however recreation fees will be increased. All those who use town facilities will see an increase for hockey and skating fees and swimming pool charges.

The 1st Avenue project is expected to start in the spring. We will work with the contractor to minimize the inconvenience this will bring. When visiting the doctor, dentist, Sun Life Financial and the Town of Unity, parking will be problematic during part of construction. The parking lot is 小蓝视频 redone at the same time as 1st Avenue. We will keep you informed as much as possible throughout the project.

The Highway 21 reroute has started. It will be exciting to see the finished product. We don’t anticipate upheaval for town residents other than the impact on the museum. I believe their machinery row has to be moved by April. If local contractors would be able to assist in some way, I’m sure any and all help would be appreciated. Work will be under the guidance of the museum, of course, as the machines are aged and possibly delicate. If you can help, reach out to the museum at 306-228-4464 or contact Recreation Director Nicole Headrick at 306-210-9010.

The town will once more be following the guidelines of the provincial government with regard to COVID-19 restrictions. As of March 1, masks will no longer be required in town buildings and staff/ council will no longer be required to be vaccinated or provide a negative test for work or meetings. If you want to continue wearing a mask, that is totally OK. There is a group looking at spearheading a community conversation on stress and how we as a community can find a way through our differences. Please watch for this and take part if you can. Our mental health is as important as our physical health.

With the warmer weather, I look forward to seeing all of you out and about. Remember to stop in at our local businesses and thank them every day for providing us with the necessities and then some.
